Description
UNTAMED captures the true resilience and strikingly dangerous beauty of a king ruling the very vast plains of the Serengeti. We had set up camp on the outskirts of these grasslands and began our journey to find a lion pride following the great herds that migrate these lands. He was our very first and last sighting of the day. At first, resting on the bed of a dried up riverbed, unaccompanied and alone. We spent but a few minutes with him refusing to give up his position, and our lens to eye stalemate had the king victorious. We left inspired to see more and as the story continues found ourselves lost in the wild maze of wildebeest, a lone matriarch, two lioness sunbathing on what seemed like pride rock and a cheetah fending off intruders. But on the long journey back to the river bed, with a storm closing in on us, we found him again, this time in the presence of his own pride. We edged our Land Rover “Hettie” closer and closer to him, and from his thrown he picked up his heavy head and gazed for a mere second at the commotion his three playful cubs were creating. And with that this moment was captured and the hope of safeguarding more of these wild families, their King, their lands and fragile ecosystems.
